Listen to the sounds of moldavite mining

When moldavites are hand mined, you can hear a characteristic sound which is given by the composition of soil in which the moldavites rest.Moldavites are found in two types of soil. Sand plus gravel and layers of clay with admixture of sand and gravel.

The soil is usually not soft and it is necessary to use some force. Sometimes it happens that, besides softer clay and sand, you hit some larger stones (usually quartz) or even a moldavite (you can imagine what happens to such a moldavite). Quartz hit by a hardened steel tool make an interesting ringing noise…
