I searched for Moldavites on eBay and what did I find? I went through 50 auctions: how many real and how many fake moldavites are being sold?

I wondered what kind of Moldavites I would find on eBay. So I visited eBay and typed „moldavite“. I chose a few interesting exemplars. The results show that it is very important to be careful when buying a moldavite. The eBay vendor´s rating is not a reliable sign of authenticity.
What I found
Moldavite Orgone Energy Pendant
Seller: ottersol123 (1661), 100% Positive feedback
Powerful pendant… Includes moldavite, chromium diopside, black tourmaline, …
I am skeptical about the authenticity of the Moldavites in this pendant. Moldavites suffused in resin are hard to recognize even live (without damaging the pendant). Personally, I wouldn´t buy it.
Green GEM MOLDAVITE Meteorite Impact Glass Czech – 71.5Cts
Seller: wanqian* (1351), 99.1% Positive feedback
Natural Moldavite, New and Grade AAA+
This is a fake made of glass, at first site. Because of the vendor´s good reviews, many buyers unfortunately didn´t realise that they purchased a fake moldavite.
One 1 Fine Moldavite Tektite From Czech Republic – 5 Carats
Seller: makingdealz (1420), 99.3% Positive feedback
A beautiful Moldavite piece from Czech Republic in perfect condition.
These are real Moldavites. Unfortunately, they are chipped off. Some even have severe damages. The vendor will choose a random piece, which means you can either receive the shinier one or the completely matte one. The site of origin is also not listed. I think, based on the picture, that the Moldavites are from multiple deposites. Another issue I see is the price. 15 USD for a damaged Moldavite, weighing 1g is really a lot.
Czech Green Moldavite – 53.0 carats – rare stretch form – with natural hole
Seller: lsm400800 (10732), 100% Positive feedback
This excellent grade green Czech moldavite individual weighs 53.0 cts / 10.6 grams.
This is also a real Moldavite. The auction contains 6 photos of the Moldavite from various angles. Unfortunately, the proportions are not listed. Neither are the deposit and other characteristics.

Without any description. You would buy a pig in a poke. I’m not sure with authenticity. The stone is probably fake. The material is too clear.

34g Raw Moldavite Stone Czech Budějovice-Nesmin Meteorite Gem Tektite
Seller: jackya99 (197), 96.8% Positive feedback
Weight: 80.34g, Locality: České Budějovice, Nesmin
It is not a moldavite but an indochinite (a different tektite with black color). The locality is muddle. České Budějovice is a city in the Czech Republic and Nesmin not exists. The right name is Nesměň (or Nesmen without diacritic) – a small village.
Green GEM MOLDAVITE Meteorite Impact Glass Czech – 54Cts
Another typical fake…
Results
I went through 50 offers.
There from:
- Real Moldavites: 18
- Probably real: 2
- Probably fake:4
- Fake:26
On the first page there was just one faceted Moldavite. If I searched for faceted Moldavites, the result would be significantly different. Most of the outcomes would be a fake, as faceted Moldavites are easier to falsificate.
